Sarah's
Story
Still
sparkling with jewels and oozing with aged glue, Sarah's
first collage -- at the tender age of 4 -- was a gift to
her father.
What began as child's play, soon enabled self-expression,
a way to sort out teenage thoughts and feelings.
"If I didn't know how to say it in words or paint
it exactly the way it looked, I could always find an image
or the colors to splash over a page...to shout out what
was going on inside me."
Then, with her children, Sarah found a whole new audience
for collage. Armed with glue, glitter, paint, and pictures,
her home was the place to make a joyful mess! And Sarah
didn't stop there.
Whether involved in childcare or facilitating a women's
group, she was quick to break out the paper, scissors and
glue -- and get colorful!
Triggered by the deaths of both her birth mother and step
mother, Sarah's most ambitious collage project, The Mothering
Wall, is a healing journey of photos and three-dimensional
media.
"My response almost always involves paper, shiny
objects and colorful images. Collage is my way of processing
emotion in a creative, organic way. That's what I offer
others...a safe, creative passage through emotional waters."
